Trouble free zone

Mom FINALLY cleaned the office corner, so there is an exercise pen there now to keep me out of things while she's busy on the computer and busy cleaning.  I like it, much bigger than a crate and look at all the toys & bones and things I have to chew on!

Who's that doggie in the mirror?

Waist Not!

A few weeks ago, I noticed Shellie was getting tubby around the middle so I cut her back to 1.44# (2% of body weight) per day (she eats Prey Model Raw) instead of the 1.8# (2.5% of her body weight) she was eating.  I think she's looking pretty good!

Sea Horse

Please mom!  Give me my sea horse, I've been really good today!  I even got a bath and a fresh bandanna for St. Patricks Day!
Worried that Ziva (4#) min pin was going to steal her sea horse toy.  She is one of the most expressive dogs in her facial expressions.

Tug of War with Mom!
Worried that Ziva's gonna steal her toy.

I Wuv's my sea horse!

Shellie & her allergies...

As the weather warms up, we're spending more time outside, longer walks etc.  Well poor Shellie is itching herself silly...to the point I had to put an ecollar on her to keep her from making her ears bleed (she has an ear infection at the moment).  She has been on benadryl, but I don't think it's working any more so we are switching her to Zyrtec (generic) 3 & 1/2 tablets per day, but I found I can get it at Dollar Tree for $1 for 14 pills so 4 packs last about 2 weeks...cheaper than I priced it at walmart....at least it's just once a day dosing instead of the 2-3 times a day that Benadryl needs.  Then we are also going to make sure she gets her Salmon Oil/Vit E Combo, Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, as well as keeping her on the diet she's on (raw).  I hope the Zyrtec helps, she's so miserable scratching and itching all the time.  She literally rubs her face on the carpet trying to get relief.  Darn allergies!  We are pretty sure it's Atopy/Seasonal as she is getting worse as the weather gets warmer and she's outside more.  I think it could be why she has no hair on her chest/stomach......from scratching so much.

Shellie

Just some pictures of Shellie taken at my work, she has her own exercise pen that I can lock her up in if she's too rambunctious while I'm grooming or too distracting for the pet being groomed, otherwise her and the Chi's alternate getting to run around in my grooming room. The picture of the black dog (Cassie-Standard poodle) shows how Cassie was 'guarding' her bone while chilling in my grooming room with Shellie...both of them are bone hounds :)

Making Progress

So we've had Shellie for almost a month now, she is doing great. Despite a bladder/kidney infection, and possible food intolerance/allergy (they just KNOW how to find me don't they?) Anyways we are 'clicker' training her and she's doing REALLY good at it. Almost too smart for her own good. Here a few commands that she's getting down pretty pat:
1- Sit
2- Down (lay down)
3- Off
4- Leave it (this one is REALLY a challenge for her especially if it's another dog or people)
5- Easy (walk easily/loose leash walking)
6- Wait (this one she came knowing, she will wait for up to 5 minutes for her food to eat, once her food it put on the floor.
There are a couple of yahoo groups that have helped immensely (spt (start puppy training) and Clicker solutions).
I take her for a 30-45 minute walk each day, which amazingly enough isn't bothering her shoulders at all. Not sure if she still has a shoulder problem as I don't notice her limping hardly ever. She gets clicks n treats along her walks. We are using a gentle leader to walk her which she does wonderful with. We just got a 'deluxe' version that is 'padded' so it's softer on her nose which she likes I think.
